
Madeleine Lowery
Prof. Madeleine Lowery is an Associate Professor in the School of Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering, University College Dublin. She is responsible for coordination of the undergraduate and Masters programmes in Biomedical Engineering at UCD. Her research uses mathematical modeling, analysis, and experimentation, to increase understanding of neuromuscular activity in healthy and diseased states and develop more effective rehabilitation strategies and therapies. Specific areas of research interest include electromyography, myoelectric control of artificial limbs, bioelectromagnetics, deep brain stimulation and neural control of movement. Madeleine received the B.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College Dublin. Between 2000 and 2005, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow then Research Assistant Professor at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Northwestern University. She is a funded investigator in the SFI funded Insight Centre for Data Analytics and the CURAM Centre for Research in Medical Devices. In 2015 she was awarded a Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council.
